I'm going to forget about doing a proper coverage of Wai-Con. Raymond has done a much better job of that
here.
So here is what I thought of Wai-Con in the shortest way I can think of.
It was my first ever convention. Yes, I was a noob there. If only Kuching had this kind of stuff... It was interesting to see many people who are so into anime and manga gathered in one spot. And with so many people like that around, it's finally normal!
Geeks galore. I like that.
Plenty of artists. It was pretty cool to meet some people I've saw around DeviantArt in real life. It was even cooler to find out that there are plenty of people who are JUST LIKE ME! Whee~
Plenty of cosplayers.
The Kingdom Hearts group were COOL. Very COOL. Awesome costumes, awesome props.
The FF7 group were also COOL. And they make great art too. I think I spent the most money on their stall. And their mock FF style battle was hilarious.
The Naruto group was not bad too. Rock Lee was female, but also very very cool, especially on Day 2, when she did an individual performance that involved doing martial art moves to music. That was awesome, and beats the official martial arts presentation anytime.
And I was like "!!!!!!!!" when I actually recognised the techniques that Rock Lee used. It's been ages since I saw my style of Taekwondo being presented so neatly.
It was kinda like watching Rock Lee's match against Gaara in the Chuunin exam and feeling as if I understood the logic and philosophy behind it because I used to do martial arts.
And whee~ I entered the Impromptu Art competition on impulse, and got Honourable Mention (2nd place. The prize was a Gundam Seed Destiny DVD, and a Wai-Con cap. Hehe, happy happy. Didn't expect to even get that, because there were quite a few kickass artists there.

Going to Wai-Con really inspired me. I want to be a better artist and really focus my own work. I also want to be a better (and more organised) writer, so I can do a proper write-up on the next convention, and maybe get that pitched for publication.
And next year, I'll be prepared with batteries for my camera, so I won't be like "ARGHHH" when they die on me because I forgot to recharge them.
Also, I'm thinking of trading with my friend at next year's Wai-con. I'll probably just do prints (not of any of my stuff that I have here at the moment, because they're all really unfocused and unpolished), and my friend is thinking of selling minature display props.
I asked about it on the forums here, but I wanted to know if there would be a market for this minature props. He'll be making stuff like minature weapons from games and animes/mangas, and he's up for commission too. I've taken a look at some of his old props, and he's not bad.
So haha, do you all think that there would be a market for this kind of thing?
